The buried capsule symbolises the beginning of the ambitious Memelio Miestas project in Klaipėda. The developers of Stemma Group aim to render the Memelio Miestas project a symbol of a historical area and a modern 21st century city.
The family of Martin, Zita and Inga Gusiatinai from Klaipėda – the shareholders of Stemma Group – decided to implement the Memelio Miestas project motivated not only by business success but also by their emotional ties with Klaipėda.
Memelio Miestas stretches over an impressive five hectares of land in the centre of Klaipėda, at the confluence of the right bank of the Danė River and the Curonian Lagoon. For many years, this area was used for port purposes. The project is being developed for the purpose of conversion, and the construction of the first buildings – a class A business centre and premium class housing – has just begun. In total, the construction plan of the Memelio Miestas includes about 100 thousand m² of new buildings of various purposes. The new part of Klaipėda’s city centre is planned to be located near the water, where it is bustling around the clock, all year round. The project includes not only new residential areas, commercial and administrative spaces but also recreational and public spaces and a sustainable city communication infrastructure (all streets are intended exclusively for pedestrians, cyclists and special service transport, while parking areas and traffic are planned only underground).
This project aims to make the Memelio Miestas ‘a city within a city’ that involves significant changes, and residents, businesses and guests willingly become part of those changes.
The concept of the project sprung from the understanding that the world is evolving at a rapid pace, and the needs of society are growing together with it. The need for human comfort is increasing, and the attitude towards the environment and sustainability is changing. Memelio Miestas is being developed in stages, and the goal of each stage is to combine these dynamic changes and to create a block that meets the needs of modern society and businesses.
The beginning of the project’s development coincided with turbulent world events: we had just combatted the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt the increasing impact of climate change and we faced an international threat to safety and peace. The developer’s faith in meaningful projects has not disappeared.
The developer, Stemma Group, is breaking the ice with significant support. The developer’s goal to strengthen the image of the city and contribute to the reveal of the city’s economic potential by implementing the Memelio Miestas project is supported by the Klaipėda City Municipality Administration. The first-stage construction works are being carried out by the general contractor Conres, whose motto is ‘Building the Future’. This slogan represents the collaborative goals of the entire team working on this project.
The text for the capsule was signed by Inga Gusiatina, the Chairman of the Board of Stemma Group, Klaipėda City Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus and the CEO of Conres, Lukas Laukaitis.
