For the construction of the architecturally exceptional water sports centre in Kaunas, Conresta UAB – a company with many years of experience – used beams of the largest dimensions ever used in Lithuania so far, which were custom-made in two cities.

The construction of the new water sports and entertainment centre on Nemunas River Island in Kaunas is proceeding according to plan. The multifunctional water sports centre will be located next to the Žalgiris Arena, on its western side. The new construction will be integrated into the naturally formed terrain of the island.

Composite metal beams of record dimensions used exclusively for the construction of the Žalgiris Arena Water Sports Centre will hold the roof structure over the large pool. The large pool will have 10 lanes and stands that will be able to fit at least 500 spectators. The depth of the pool in the entire area will be 2.20 m, and the width of the swimming lanes will be 2.50 m.

The production of the beams continued at night and on weekends, and in two cities: Alytus and Panevėžys. The beams were transported from the production site to the construction site using special transport with permits. In total, six beams, each consisting of 12 parts, were installed at the site. Beam installation work was carried out in open air, in compliance with all safety requirements. The total length of one beam is 44.29 meters, weighing a staggering 80.9 tons; these are the first beams of such dimensions in Lithuania.

Lukas Laukaitis, CEO of Conresta UAB, claims that the completion of this unique stage of the project has merely confirmed that the company is a modern construction market leader not afraid of challenges. ‘I am proud and grateful to the entire project team. By performing such unique works, we have once again proven our professionalism and competence. I am certain that the project will continue to be implemented in the same meticulous manner as it has been so far, and the doors will open on time. I am glad that our cooperation with Montuotojas UAB and their experience allowed us to efficiently and smoothly perform the planned works with the beams of record dimensions for Lithuania,’ said L. Laukaitis. The CEO of the company is seconded by the Project Manager Laurynas Senkus, who is also grateful to the entire team for its contribution to the successful erection of the beams at the site, despite varying weather conditions. ‘Usually, in construction, only factors of time and the timely completion of works are emphasised. However, we would like to demonstrate that we can overcome challenges and complete projects not only on time but also while applying unique and exceptional solutions that will be relevant in the future as well,’ said L. Senkus.

A team of highly qualified professionals at Montuotojas UAB was assembled to design and manufacture the beams. ‘We manufactured and installed record-size beams for this unique building. These beams have no counterparts on the Lithuanian market. The implementation of a manufacturing project of such large scope required not only a competent team of specialists but also smooth production processes, which we successfully ensured. Having implemented this project, which is unique in the history of Montuotojas, we proved that we have the potential to carry out both large local and international orders,’ said Martynas Pargaliauskas, the CEO of Montuotojas.

The construction of the 18.4 thousand sq. m water sports and entertainment centre of A+ energy class is to be completed in the summer of 2022.
