“The construction of a new factory is an important stage in our company’s operations. It will allow us to further increase our production capacity and become even stronger by improving our working conditions, as well as further increasing the efficiency and sustainability of our processes. All this means that we will be able to respond even more precisely to the needs of our main customer,” said Jonas Krutinis, CEO of Vilniaus Baldai. Vilniaus Baldai specialises in the production of light cabinet furniture. The company sells all its products to the IKEA corporation, with whom it started cooperating in 1997. IKEA became the main customer of Vilniaus Baldai in 2007.

The construction of the new factory was planned to provide for an increase in sales after Vilniaus Baldai signed a long-term agreement with IKEA. As the existing factory would allow for only a partial implementation of the agreement, it was decided to build a new one.

The modern furniture factory is being built in Trakai District in accordance with the highest standards and based on examples of good practice, taking into account both the current and future customer needs. More efficient production processes and new technological solutions will allow Vilniaus Baldai to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide it emits into the environment, as well as improving its energy consumption and the amount of waste generated.

“We consistently invest in increasing the efficiency of our production volumes and processes. However, the construction of the factory is a new experience for our company. Having reliable and experienced partners – Conresta and INREAL – has greatly influenced the success of this experience. We truly appreciate their efforts and professional knowledge, which were proven as they met the ambitious project deadlines, ensured smooth processes, and anticipated all problematic issues. Our partners have also noted the high standards of their work,” J. Krutinis said.

The factory is being built on an impressive site that could fit 24 football stadiums.

“The new Vilniaus Baldai factory occupies the largest area to be developed in the entire history of the INREAL Group. One of the most serious challenges was finding an 18-ha plot near Vilnius, because there are no solid plots of land this size suitable for development. Therefore, we had to put a lot of work into connecting different plots and forming an area where the new factory could be built. Another significant task was managing the design process, which involved an international team of Lithuanian and Polish specialists working in tandem,” said Gediminas Pruskus, Head of INREAL Group.

The technical design of the factory was based on the experience of the Polish design office. It was adapted to the needs of the company by the architect Vitalijus Vyšnia. The interior of the administrative premises was jointly designed by Natalija Baran and Vidmantas Kančiauskas.

Modern construction organisation and close cooperation

Conresta, one of the largest construction companies in Lithuania, has many years of experience in the management and administration of industrial building construction and was entrusted with the construction of this exceptional-sized factory. The company was also named as the general construction contractor for the Continental plant.

Lukas Laukaitis, Director of Conresta, explained that when planning the construction of the Vilniaus Baldai factory, the customer asked for the complex project to be implemented in a relatively short time.

“The area of the object is truly exceptional, so our teams of specialists had to plan the course of the work precisely and worked closely together to create suitable conditions for the installation of the technological equipment in due time. This was especially important in this case. Flexible cooperation with the customer, developer, and subcontractors, combined with the professional approach of our experienced team and the rationalisation of solutions ensured the optimal, seamless, transparent and high-quality project implementation. We are pleased with the professionalism and the well-planned work demonstrated by all parties to this project. We managed the construction perfectly, so we will finish the last part of the project in May,” the CEO of Conresta said.

Last year, Conresta’s turnover amounted to €70 million. For several years, the company has been expanding its operations in foreign markets by implementing projects in Scandinavia and the Caribbean. “As an innovative general contractor, we offer modern quality and working methods, so we are happy when a real estate project developer values our capabilities. We strive to work with customers who focus on modern quality, because such projects create the greatest value and help us to continue improving,” L. Laukaitis explained.
